Abstract: From the root bark of Eliea articulata Cambess (Hypericaceae), a medicinal plant species endemic to Madagascar, two new compounds typical of Xanthone and flavonone named Elieaxanthone and Elieaflavonone containing two membered rings in its side chain were isolated by repeated silica gel column chromatography. Their structures were determined by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy and spectroscopy High-resolution MS. The results of the present research work is reported for the first time and revealed that a comparative study of the clusioid clade will help to understand the origin and maintenance of diversity among this clade and their implication at Pharmacognosy level (biotaxonomy).
