Abstract: The present investigation is carried out to study the genetic parameters for yield and yield attributing characters in 100 rice genotypes. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences for all the traits under study, indicating that enough variability is present in the studied material. The characters viz., grain yield/plant and biological yield exhibited high Genotypic Coefficient of Variation (GCV) and Phenotypic Coefficient of Variation (PCV). Days to 50% flowering, plant height, days to maturity, spikelet’s fertility and harvest index recorded low estimates of PCV and GCV. Small differences between GCV and PCV were recorded for all the characters studied, indicated less influence of environment on these characters. The characters viz., ear bearing tillers, number of grains per panicle, biological yield, test weight and grain yield/plant exhibited high heritability coupled with high genetic advance, indicating that simple selection could be effective for improving these characters.
