Abstract:

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of gamma irradiation induced variation in M1and M2 generations of two genotypes of Vigna radiata var. CO 6 and CO 8. Dry seeds were irradiated with 350, 450 and 550 Gy of gamma rays (60C0) in M1 generation. The progenies were studied in M2 generation to find out the effects of gamma ray treatment on both genotypes of V. radiata var. with the aim of isolating economic mutants towards the mutagen and also to obtain information on efficiency, effectiveness of the mutagen treatment through the spectrum of chlorophyll mutants. The results of the present experiment corroborate V. radiata var. CO 6 and CO 8, shows higher frequency of chlorina was induced by gamma rays. The mutant albino was observed at minimum proportions. Higher frequency of viable mutants was observed at in 550 Gy for M2 generation in both the genotypes. Spectrum and frequency of different morphological mutations in M2 generation indicating the scope for selection of traits to isolate high yielding desirable mutants.
