Performance of garlic (Allium sativum L.) genotypes for growth and yield traits under Eastern Dry Zone of Karnataka

Abstract: In the experiment twenty six garlic genotypes were evaluated for their growth and yield attributes during Rabi season of 2016-17 at college of Horticulture, Kolar, Karnataka. The data recorded on different growth, yield traits showed a significant variation. From the study maximum plant height was recorded in Yamuna Safed-9 (70.44 cm). While, the maximum number of leaves per plant, leaf length and leaf width were recorded in Yamuna Safed-3 (9.60), Yamuna Safed-5 (53.71 cm) and Yamuna Safed-9 (1.84 cm), respectively. Ranebennur Local recorded minimum number of days to maturity (104.5 days). The maximum polar and equatorial diameters of the bulb were recorded in Yamuna Safed-3 (3.30 cm and 4.42 cm), respectively. The genotype Yamuna Safed-3 recorded maximum ten bulb weight (284.10 g) and bulb yield per hectare (14.51 t/ha). On the basis of growth and yield parameters Yamuna Safed-3, Yamuna Safed-2, Yamuna Safed-9 and Yamuna Safed-5 found best for cultivation under Eastern Dry Zone of Karnataka.
