Holistic yoga and PCOS

Abstract:

The polycystic ovarian syndrome is a common endocrine disorder affecting women in their reproductive age with a prevalence rate of 6-10%. It was time described by Stein and Leventhal in 1935 so called Stein and Leventhal syndrome. It is characterized by combination of hyperandrogenism either clinical or biochemical, chronic anovulation and polycystic ovaries. As per Rotterdam criteria, it is frequently associated with insulin resistance and obesity. It is best known and most extensively studied cause of an ovulatory infertility in the reproductive age women. In the present era of globalisation these has been a transient change in the life style to a more sedentary exercise overtime, lack of physical exercise, stress, high calorie food and indiscriminate dietary habits.
Ayurveda has holistic approach and it includes all the factors which are absolute or accessory in the determination of health. Yoga is complete prescription for the healthy body and mind can destroy the root cause of PCOS that is strain, stress and obesity, and stabilize the normal function of Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Ovarian Axis, lowers the production of stress hormone cortisol which is one of the most important cause of storage of fat in the body and cures the PCOS.
