Abstract:

Grown alongside Hindu temples, aegle marmelo is regarded as the most sacred or holy plant. The medicinal plant Aegle marmelos, also referred to as bael, has a variety of pharmacological qualities. In addition, the plant is thought to have significant therapeutic significance; its description is found in ancient texts such as the Vedas, Puranas, Charaka Samhita, Brihat Samhita, and has also been shown in Ajanta cave paintings.

Numerous physiologically active substances that belong to different chemical groups were extracted from different portions of Aegle marmelos, including alkaloids, terpenoids, vitamins, coumarins, tannins, flavonoids, fatty acids, and essential oils. Diabetes, cholesterol, peptic ulcers, diarrhoea, and dysentery, as well as anticancer, cardioprotective, antibacterial, antifungal, radioprotective, antipyretic, analgesic, antioxidants, hepatoprotective, wound healing, and many more conditions, may all be cured by this plant. Therefore, this review could serve as useful guide for researchers who wish to start looking at Aegle marmelos in more detail.
