Allergic rhinitis is a common disorder, which is usually characterized by spasmodic attacks of severe sneezing and rhinorrhoea. It is a reaction to certain Allergens. Allergic rhinitis isn’t life threatening, but it can seriously affect your quality of life. Constant sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes and fatigue can make it hard to focus, sleep well or enjoy daily activities. Modern Medicine offers treatments that can manage the symptoms of allergic rhinitis, they often don’t provide a permanent or fully satisfactory cure for everyone. Most treatments like antihistamines, corticosteroid nasal sprays and decongestants are aimed at controlling symptoms rather than addressing the root cause. There is need to search satisfactory treatment in other medical system. So here we present case of allergic rhinitis successfully treated with Ayurveda.
An 36 yrs old female patient came to the OPD of Kayachikitsa at our Hospital in December 2024. Symptoms were sneezing for up to 1 hr. in the morning and when comes in contact with dust, then 40-50 sneezing per day, watery discharge from the nose, heaviness in the head region sometimes headache, weakness, Left nostril was partially blocked along with bilateral nasal itching.
The patient's clinical findings and symptoms were suggestive of Allergic Rhinitis, which is of perennial type. According to Ayurveda diagnosis was done as Vata-Kaphaj Pratishyay. The patient experienced a reduction in all the symptoms after 18 days. The primary complaint of sneezing was significantly reduced after completing the treatment. Ayurvedic therapeutic interventions other than Nasya (∼Nasal oleation), and Sasaidhav Snehan Swedan on chest region modalities showed encouraging results in managing Allergic Rhinitis in a short duration of time.
