Annona muricata is a common plant used in tropical regions to treat various diseases. This research aimed in evaluating the effects of Annona muricata on the kidneys of adult wistar rats. 30 rats were randomly assigned into groups. Group I was control group, while group II-V was given soursoup leaves extract (250, 500, 750, 1750 and 2000 mg/kg respectively) via orogastric tube. Rats were sacrificed; the kidney harvested for histological analysis. Blood samples taken for renal analysis. Findings indicated that the kidney in the test groups showed interstitial congestion, vasodilatation and tubular necrosis in groups treated with above 250 kg/kg, also indicated significant decrease in weights of the test kidney and significant increase on the urea level at dosage 2000 mg/kg and no significant difference on the creatinine levels as compared to the control group. It was concluded high dose of Annona muricata may have an adverse effect on the kidney.
