The famous tropical fruit known as guava (Psidium guajava) is rich in vitamins and phytochemicals. Only biscuits, jams, jellies, marmalades, and other processed guava products are currently available, despite the traditional medicinal benefits of guava over metabolic diseases, gut infections, diabetes, and obesity having been demonstrated.
Guajava psidium Linn. (family Myrtaceae) is often known as banjiro in Japanese; guava, goyaveorgoyavier in French; guave, Guavenbaum, and Guayave in German; and guayaba, guayabo in English. Guava leaves' ability to regulate the immune response is due to their complex phytochemical profile, which is particularly rich in flavonoids (like quercetin and myricetin), triterpenoids, and polyphenols (including gallic acid and ellagic acid). This study critically assesses the scientific literature on GLE's immunomodulatory effects, emphasing how it can improve phagocytic activity, boost both innate and adaptive immunity, and reduce excessive inflammation by modifying the expression of cytokines and enzymes.
