Abstract:

Yonivyapada is a group of gynecological disorders described in Ayurveda that mainly affect the female reproductive system. These disorders cause problems such as abnormal vaginal discharge, pain, itching, burning sensation, menstrual irregularities, and infertility. According to Ayurveda, Yonivyapada occurs due to imbalance of Doṣas, mainly Vāta, along with involvement of Pitta and Kapha. Disturbance of Apāna Vāta plays an important role in the development of these conditions. Classical Ayurvedic texts describe different types of Yonivyapada along with their causes, symptoms, and treatment principles. The management of Yonivyapada includes avoidance of causative factors, Doṣa balancing therapies, internal medicines, and local treatments such as Basti and Uttarabasti. This review article presents the concept of Yonivyapada in a simple and clear manner based on classical Ayurvedic literature. Proper understanding of Yonivyapada helps in planning effective and holistic treatment for gynecological disorders and in maintaining female reproductive health.
