Abstract:
One monounsaturated fatty acid ester and three anthraquinones were isolated for the first time from the leaves of
Asphodelus microcarpus and identified as oleic acid methyl ester (1), chrysophanol (2), 10-(chrysophanol-7-yl)-10-hydroxychrysophanol-9-anthrone (3) and asphodoside C (4). The compounds were identified on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR and MS analyses. The methanolic extract of
A. microcarpus leaves demonstrated a higher antimicrobial activity against
Staphylococcus aureus and
Candida albicans with an MIC value of 78µg/ml. The methanolic extract showed also a moderate antiviral activity against HAV-10 virus and a highest cytotoxic activity against lung carcinoma cell line (A-549) with IC
50 value of 29.3µg/ml.
