Studies on the physio-morphology, flowering and fruit characteristics of mango genotypes in subtropical climate of Eastern India

Abstract:
Plant, inflorescences and fruit characteristics of 24 mango genotypes were studied during the period 2016 to 2017. There were distinct variations among the findings of the neoplasm on plant, leaf, inflorescence fruit characters. Wide variations were observed in relation to the % perfect flower, fruit length, fruit diameter, harvested fruit weight, % total soluble solid and % titratable acidity ranging from 6.25 to 27.14%, 4.92 to 13.24cm, 4.57 to 10.64cm, 26.13 to 68.22g, 12.85 to 23.24% and 0.17 to 0.53%, respectively. The earliest panicle initiation was found in genotype Bag Bahar (8th Feb) and late in Chapraha (6th March). The germplasm Seso Maldah was top of the list in case of perfect flower percentage (27.14%) and lowest (6.25%) in Gilas. The maximum TSS percentage of harvested fruit was found in Kala Pahar (23.24) and Nisar Pasand (23.08) but lowest acidity percentage was found in Kala Pahar (0.17) at par with Nisar Pasand (0.18) and Bag Bahar (0.19) while highest in Gilas (0.55) at par with Khatma Belkhar (0.53).
