Abstract:
Papaya (Carica papaya L.) belongs to family caricaceae is one of the most important remunerative fruit crop cultivated throughout the tropical and subtropical region of our country. Drip irrigation is one of the most efficient methods of water application to crops. It has high water use efficiency and hence should be adopted on a large scale for various horticultural crops like papaya. Drip irrigation method is very efficient for supplying irrigation water to the plant precisely to root zone. Drip water system applies water slowly to keep soil moisture within the desire range of plant growth. Therefore, these experiments had been planned to be conducted for assessing the effect of drip irrigation on papaya in high density orchard with following objectives: To estimate uniformity coefficient of emitter discharge, To develop a relation between pressure and emitter discharge, To estimate crop water requirement of papaya under high density planting, To calculate the cost of installation of drip irrigation for papaya. To evaluate the performance evaluation of drip irrigation system are Emitter discharge and operating pressure. Based on the results obtained, the following conclusions can be drawn: The uniformity coefficient was acceptable (94.67 – 96.62 %) for all the pressure setting but was highest at 1 kg/cm2 (96.62 %). The variation of average discharge along the laterals was erratic, Coefficient of uniformity increases with decrease in emitter flow variation and total cost of installation of drip irrigation system for papaya under high density planting was found to be 1, 87,575 Rs / ha.
