Abstract:
Ni (II) is one of most hazardous heavy metal present in industrial effluents The study was carried to test the use of
Diplocyclos palmatus seed as adsorbent for Ni (II) removal from aqueous solution. Batch adsorption method was used and the concentration of Ni (II) measured using an ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometry. The effect of contact time, adsorbent dosage, pH, initial metal ion concentration was studied. The data showed that adsorption on
Diplocyclos palmatus seed fitted well to Langmuir isotherm. Pseudo-second order model explains the nickel kinetics more effectively. Reusability of the adsorbent was examined by desorption in which HCl eluted 93 % nickel. The results revealed that nickel is considerably adsorbed on
Diplocyclos palmatus seed and it could be an economic method for the removal of nickel from aqueous solutions.
