Abstract:
The aromatic rice variety Gobindobhog was used in the experiment which was carried out in RBD design with 8 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were: T
1 = Control plot, T
2 =Two hand weeding @ 20 and 40 DAT; T
3 =Mechanical weeding @ 20 and 40 DAT; T
4 =
Cyperus rotundus extract + 1 mechanical weeding at 30 DAT; T
5=
Echinochloa colona extract +1 mechanical weeding at 30 DAT ; T
6 =
Bambusa vulgaris leaf & shoot extract + 1 mechanical weeding at 30 DAT; T
7=
Cucumis sativus leaf extract + 1 mechanical weeding at 30 DAT, and T
8=
Xanthium strumanium leaf extract + 1 mechanical weeding at 30 DAT. The result revealed that the application of botanical herbicides had a significant influence on weed control efficiency, weed control index, growth and yield of crop which was found highest under the treatment T
7 followed by T
6. T
7 treatment had maximum number of effective tiller that produced highest yield (3717 kg/ha). Thus, it may be concluded that application of Cucumber leaf extract along with one mechanical weeding at 30 DAT gives highest weed control efficiency.
