Abstract:
The response of cowpea
(Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) Viz. growth and yield performance to different organic manures alone and in combination with biofertilizers was evaluated by conducting a field experiment in clay soil. The growth attributes of cowpea viz. plant height, branches per plant, leaf area and leaf area index (LAI) was found highest in treatment involving the combined application of FYM + Vermicompost +
Rhizobium + PSB culture. Similarly, the root growth and nodules count were also found higher in the treatment receiving combined application of organic manures with biofertilizers. The yield of cow pea was increased by 46% under the treatment receiving organic manures and biofertilizers as compared to control treatment. The results of the present study revealed that the cowpea crop responded positively to the combined application of organic manures and biofertilizers towards growth, growth and yield attributes and yield.
