Abstract:
Plants are rich sources of bioactive compounds, and have been used in traditional medicine systems for the past few millennia; even now plant-based drugs continue to provide new remedies to mankind. The medicinal plant Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br. (Saptaparṇa, Chhatim) is widely used in the Indian school of traditional medicine of Ayurveda. The present study reports phytochemical studies and HPTLC finger-printing profile of Alstonia scholaris roots. These results provide referential parameters for identification of this drug.
