Abstract:

Plants are rich sources of bioactive compounds, and have been used in traditional medicine systems for the past few millennia; even now plant-based drugs continue to provide new remedies to mankind. The medicinal plant Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br. (Saptapará¹‡a, Chhatim) is widely used in the Indian school of traditional medicine of Ayurveda. The present study reports phytochemical studies and HPTLC finger-printing profile of Alstonia scholaris roots. These results provide referential parameters for identification of this drug.
