Genetic analysis of yield and its attributing traits in lentil
Soumya Satpathy and Sandip Debnath
Lentil is a potential pulse crop for rice fallows of dry regions of south Asian countries. Yield is a complex character which is believed to be the cumulative effect of several other characters. The field experiment was conducted at Agriculture farm of Palli Siksha Bhavana (Institute of Agriculture), Visva-Bharati during two rabi
seasons of year 2017-18 and 2018-19 with an objective to asses yield and its attributing traits in fifty different lentil genotypes. The genotypes of lentil were tested in randomized block design with three replications. The analysis of variance was carried out for sixteen different traits which exhibited highly significant differences among genotypes for each character under study. Statistical analysis was employed to find out the genetic parameters viz.
Components of variance i.e. genotypic and phenotypic variance and their coefficient, heritability in broad sense and genetic advance. Grain yield recorded moderate heritability accompanied by low genetic advance. The performance of varieties viz.
IC-04-07, BLC-173, ILL-10461, LEN-13-13 and BM-1 of lentil were found significantly superior over rest of the varieties with respect to yield as the major criterion.
