Abstract:
Bacopa monnieri (L.) Pennell, commonly known as “Brahmi” is an important medicinal herb of the family Scrophulariaceae. It has main importance as tonic for nervous disorders and mental diseases. It helps in improving intelligence, memory and learning ability. In the present work, a protocol for micropropagation of selected genotype of
Bacopa monnieri (L.) Pennell has been standardized. Axillary buds were used as explants for
in vitro plant regeneration studies in
Bacopa monnieri (L.) Pennell. Axillary shoot buds showed best
in vitro establishment (87.50%) on MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/l BAP and 0.5 mg/l Kn. Best
in vitro shoot multiplication was obtained on MS medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/l BAP and 0.5 mg/l Kn. For
in vitro rooting, MS medium supplemented with 0.4 mg/l IAA was found to be the best medium (93.33%). Regenerated plantlets were successfully acclimatized by using cocopeat followed by a mixture of soil: sand: FYM in ratio 1:1:1.
