Effect of EMS (Ethyl methane sulphonate) on chlorophyll content and ascorbic acid of chilli in M1 generation

Author(s):

Sonali Ramaji Soyam

Abstract:
This study was performed by exposing the seeds of chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) cv. Phule Jyoti to EMS. The observations were made on chlorophyll content and Ascorbic acid content of chilli. The study revealed that ascorbic acid content decreased with an increase in dose/concentration of EMS as compared to control. Whereas in Chlorophyll content, maximum chlorophyll ‘a’ was observed in higher dose of EMS treatment, chlorophyll ‘b’ in lower dose of EMS and total chlorophyll in higher dose of EMS. Higher dose of EMS showed maximum chlorophyll ‘a’ and total chlorophyll in M1 generation.
