Ayurvedic management of Kaphaj Kasa: A case study

Abstract:

Every person wishes to be healthy everyday. The health of every person depend partially pn his respiration. Nowadays due to urbanization, everyone is more prone to respiratory diseases. Polluted air, sedentary lifestyle, wrong dietary habits are the main causes of respiratory diseases. A sudden loud hacking sound based on air clearing the throat or irritation of the airways is called a cough. Cough can be associated with Kasa vyadhi. Kasa is one of the respiratory disease described in ayurveda. Irritation of throat and airway by pollutants, bacteria, tobacco, smoke etc results in Kasa. Kasa vyadhi in ayurveda have five different presentation modes described in classical texts. We are now discussing about the case of kaphaj kasa, who is experiencing following symptoms since 10 days- peenas (headacheand noseblock), uragaurav (heaviness in chest), aruchi (tastelessness), kaphanishtivan (cough expectoration). Ayurvedic preparation such as sitoaladi choorna, abhrak bhasma, tankanbhasma, kanakasava have been used internally to treat the patient. Gandharvaharitaki choorna was given to the patient for vatanuloman. External treatment includes snehan with til tail and Nadi swedan with dashmool kwath. The patient displays impressive results from the above treatment.
