Identification of Scarabaeid beetles (Coleoptera) in vicinity of sugarcane crop in the western plain zone of Uttar Pradesh, India

Abstract:
The fantastic survey was conducted in vicinity of sugarcane growing area in four district Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat and Sahahranpur of western plain zone of Uttar Pradesh, India revealed 26 species belong to 5 subfamilies Rutelinae, Melolonthinae, Scarabaeinae, Dynastinae and Cetoniinae. In the subfamily Rutelinae, the maximum number of beetles was collected <em>Anomala begalensis </em>fallowed by<em> Anomala dimidiate</em> and least collected <em>Anomala varicolor </em>and<em> Anomala ruficapilla. </em>In the subfamily Melolonthinae, the maximum number of beetles was collected <em>Holotrichia nagpurensis</em> fallowed by <em>Holotrichia</em> spp. and least collected <em>Lepidiota</em> spp. In the subfamily Scarabaeinae, the maximum number of beetles was collected <em>Onthophagus ramosellus </em>fallowed by <em>Onthophagus</em> <em>gazella</em> and least collected <em>Catharsius pithecus</em>. In the subfamily Dynastinae, the maximum number of beetles was collected <em>Protaetia albaguttata</em> and least collected <em>Phylloganthus dionysius</em>. In the subfamily Cetoniinae, the maximum number of beetles was collected <em>Oxycetonia versicolor</em> and least collected <em>Oxycetonia albopunctata.</em> All these species recorded for the first time from sugarcane growing area of the western plain zone of Uttar Pradesh, India.
