Cost of cultivation of Paddy in Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh

Abstract:
Paddy (
Oryza sativa L.) is the most important staple food crop in Asia. More than 90% of the world’s paddy is grown and consumed in Asia, where 60% of the world’s population lives. The area under paddy in India was reported 43.95 million hectares with the total production of 106.54 million tonnes, while productivity was recorded 24.249 quintal per hectare. The area under paddy in Utter Pradesh was 5.98 million hectares, and production was 14.63 million tonnes while productivity 24.479 qt/ha. Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh was selected purposively in order to avoid operational inconvenience. One block (Aspur Deosara) having highest area under paddy crop was selected purposively and from selected block 5 villages were selected randomly. The respondents were stratified into three size groups i.e., (i) marginal (blow 1 ha), (ii) small (1-2 ha) and (iii) medium (2-4 ha).
